I’ve had a few people approach me recently asking about coaching. As the conversations progressed, it became apparent that these people know what they need to do, they just simply don’t want to do it. One gentleman said it best when he told me, “I just need someone to kick me in the a**!” Yes, he used the “A” word. And I applaud his discernment in understanding that he’s not making it happen on his own. He needs outside assistance.

While coaching absolutely provides the accountability needed to achieve success, your decision to succeed is the single most important decision you will ever make in achieving your goals.

Success doesn't come to you

The mechanics of success may differ given your goals, but the decision to succeed will determine your final outcome.

Success is a Decision:

1. Decide. One of my favorite quotes is by George E. Allen and he said, “People of mediocre ability sometimes achieve outstanding success because they don’t know when to quit. Most people succeed because they are determined to.” Are you tired of listening to yourself rehash the same list of excuses? Are you tired of feeling defeated and as a result simply give into it? Decide today to do something different. Make one change today that your future self with thank you for. One small change will eventually lead to BIG results.

2. Commit. Put a stake in the ground. Commit to your course of action. Make no more excuses. If for no other reason than, let’s just see what happens! For 30 days, make just one small change and commit to it. I have a colleague and friend who terms it the “cardiac effect,” stating that studies by fitness and health experts show that just 30 minutes of exercise a day is enough to lose significant weight over time. 30 minutes a day doing something that will move you closer to your goals will enable you to reap the rewards of success in the future. Make the leap and just commit already!

3. Focus. Your mind. You become what you think about. What are you giving attention to in your thoughts on a regular basis? If you’re focusing on how much you don’t like doing what needs to be done, then you’re not going to ever do it. But if you choose to focus on the rewards that await you on the other side of the hard work, then rewards you shall have. What you concentrate on grows in your experience. Focus on the rewards and results, not your emotional dislike.

You CAN do so much more than you think.

You CAN have the life you want.

You weren’t created to live a defeated life. You were created to live victoriously. You were meant for success.
